Drvenik is a port and a tourist spot, about 27 kilometers away from Makarska. In Drvenik there are about 500 inhabitants, and they are mainly living from tourism and fishing. Drvenik is mentioned for the first time in the 13th century. The local people say that the name of Drvenik derives from the word «drvo» (wood), as it was surrounded by thick woods. In the place of Drvenik there is a church of St Juraj , dating back to 15th century. There are ferries going from Drvenik for islands of Hvar and Korcula.
