Makarska is situated under the Biokovo mountain, that has been declared a protected park of nature. This town, as well as its complete surroundings, represents on of the most visited destinations of the middle Dalmatia. Makarska has around 11,800 inhabitants that are mostly living from tourism, growing olives, growing fruit, seafaring and foodstuff processing. The overall climate in this area is mediterranean. Summers are long and warm, and during winter there is a strong north wind blowing – «bura» (bora), being most often the cause of traffic problems. Still, Makarska and its inhabitants cannot picture any winter without bora. During summer you can refresh yourself in the beautiful clean sea or in the fresh air up on the Biokovo mountain. The accomodation in Makarska is on the very high level, thus there are many hotels, villas, private apartments and rooms, and camps. Guests that want active vacation can use numerous football fields, basketball courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts, open swimming pools, climbing paths, cycling paths and hiking paths leading all the way to peaks of Biokovo, from where there is a beautiful view on Makarska and its surroundings. Gastro offer is on the very high level as well, with top quality restaurants and tavernas offering local specialties and international ones as well. You will, most likely, visit this place many times, for its beautiful nature, sea and beaches. We recommend you to visit other places on the Riviera of Makarska – Baska Voda, Bratus, Brela, Brist, Drasnice, Drvenik, Gradac, Igrane, Podaca, Podgora, Tucepi, Zaostrog and Zivogosce .
